Volunteer & Fundraise
We all benefit. We are thankful to the members of the community who graciously offer their time and skills to volunteer with us, and those that support us through participating in our fundraising events. Here are some ways you can work with us in support of those who have Alzheimer Disease or related disorders and their caregivers:
Volunteer
Volunteering is an enriching experience in so many ways. When you become part of our team, you have an opportunity to:
- Support a cause you truly believe in.
- Apply your current skills, and gain some new ones.
- Meet new people, make new friends and develop professional contacts.
- Feel the personal satisfaction of helping others.
- Make a difference in your own community.
Just think of the difference you can make by becoming an Alzheimer Society volunteer—there are many possibilities. With opportunities to suit everyone, there are many ways you can become involved.
Fundraise
Team up with Alzheimer Society of York Region and host a special fundraising event—from a bake sale to golf tournament, raffle, barbeque, gala dinner, baseball tournament—in support of the Society. Every successful event will help ensure the Society remains a leader in improving the quality of life for those with Alzheimer Disease or related dementias and their caregivers.
Raise funds for services, programs and research by:
- Participating, organizing and promoting our annual fundraising campaign “Spring for a Toonie—Don’t Let the Light Go Out” event for Alzheimer research by simply displaying a poster and information brochures in your place of business. This Campaign begins on the first day of spring, March 21 and will end on the last day of Spring, June 20. This campaign can be collaborated with “Dress Down Days” or “Casual Days”.
- Hosting a Coffee BreakTM and being a host/hostess with the most. Coffee BreakTM is a grassroots initiative that was first held in September 1996. It is a major nationwide fundraising event for the Alzheimer Society. Coffee BreakTM events take place anywhere people gather for coffee, such as large and small businesses, hospitals, service organizations, community centres, care facilities, police stations, fire stations, coffee shops and in people’s homes. This event is held nationally in September each year. This year the event is scheduled for September 21, World Alzheimer Day. We provide the signs, pamphlets and the donation boxes. A donation is made to the Society for every cup of coffee poured. Proceeds from sponsors and participants go toward funding local programs and services for people with Alzheimer Disease and their caregivers.
- Getting involved, participating or sponsoring our annual Golf Classic Tournament.
- Participating in our Walk for Memories event. It is an annual, province-wide event held during National Alzheimer Awareness Month in January.
- Helping to organize or volunteering at a special fundraising event.
- Helping with In Honour, In Memoriam and bequest donationd.
