The Alzheimer Society of York Region provides service within the Regional Municipality of York. This vast region comprises 1,776 square kilometres from Lake Simcoe in the north to Steeles Avenue in the south. It borders Simcoe County and Peel Region in the west and Durham Region in the east. The Alzheimer Society of York Region provides service to all nine municipalities that are contained within the Region (Georgina, East Gwillumbury, Newmarket, Aurora, Whitchurch Stouffville, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and King).

 

The Region is very diverse with quaint rural villages, bustling suburban communities and vibrant cosmopolitan urban areas. Our landscape includes farmlands, wetlands, kettle lakes, the Oak Ridges Moraine and over 2,070 hectares of regional forest. York Region has a vibrant multicultural population with 43% of the Region’s population identifying themselves as immigrants. With a population over 1 million and with one of the nation’s highest growth rates the Region is a rapidly growing and changing area. It is estimated that by 2031 there will be 1.5 million people residing in York and by 2026 York Region's senior population will increase nearly four times over the 2000 levels and comprise 21% of the total population.
